Bhoy Roy

Now that we've won the league its time to speculate on the next wave of Celtic transfers. With a large Roy Keane shaped hole now on the front door of old trafford it was only a matter of time before all the papers started hinting that Celtic were giving Keano the glad eye. It seems Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn and Keane's agent are playing a backwards game of the age-old 'No, you hang up' phone conversation with each party saying they're waiting for the other to get in touch. So while we're waiting for that mexican (or Irish-Scottish) stand-off to finish I thought I'd throw my two cents (or two pence now I'm no longer living in a Euro friendly city) into the mix.

You see, I've never been a Roy Keane fan and for a number of EXCELLENT reasons:
  1. I hate Man Utd. and because until recently he was Mr. Man Utd, I hate him by proxy.
  2. He let us down big time with the whole Saipan debacle. I don't care what his reasons were you don't turn your back on playing for your country. I'd give my left leg to play for Ireland (admittedly I'd be fairly sh1te with only one leg but I could go in goals or something)
  3. My Dad's from Keane's home county of Cork and he still doesn't forgive Keane for reason 2 above. Loyalty dictates that I side with the auld fella'

Now despite these very conclusive and damning reasons I do see him as an excellent footballer and an asset to any team he is part of. However, Celtic are doing the business right now and there seems to be a good team-spirit emerging from the current squad with many of the youngsters blossoming under Strachans watchful eye. If it was possible to criticise his grace Martin O'Neill , then the one criticism would have to be that he put his faith in his old war horses for too long. Strachan is rectifying that and Celtic (and Scotland) are reaping the rewards. Would it really be worth throwing another battle-weary veteran into the mix now regardless of his obvious pedigree?
